On July 18, 2019 the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Shanghaiopens the exhibition Miss Dior Love N’Roses featuring work by ACT lecturer Lara Baladi. The “polyphonic” exhibition “joyfully blends the rich history of Miss Dior with the visionary creation of contemporary female artist Lara Baladi.”
The exhibit is a tribute to the designer Christian Dior’s devotion to fashion and fragrance, to the women who influenced him, and to those who made his fashions and perfumes so successful. The exhibition showcases the history of French fashion house Christian Dior’s Parfums first perfume, Miss Dior. The press release for the exhibition describes Baladi’s work, Don’t Touch Me Tomatoes and Chachacha, as a multi-media piece that “brings together a crowd of ‘firefly women’ including Anna Pavlova, Alice Guy, Isadora Duncan, presented as emblematic feminine figures who are creative, committed, and triumphant.”
The installation was a commission by and for Dior and acquired by Fondation Louis Vuitton in 2014. The exhibition closes August 9.
