Introduction to artistic practice and critical visual thinking. Through a series of three studio-based projects, students engage in stages of conceptual development and learn about materials and techniques.

Projects are:

“Body Extension”
(sculptural/architectural/corporeal art)

“Shaping Time”
(video/sound art)

“Made Public”
(site interventions/working in public)

Lectures, screenings, guest presentations, readings supplement studio practice. Attention to historical, cultural and environmental forces affecting development of artistic vision and reception of art. Each project concludes with final presentation and critical discussion.

Minimum of six hours a week outside class work expected. Students from all disciplines encouraged to enroll.
