DESCRIPTION:Featuring visiting artists Stephen Vitiello\, Scanner\, and the Either/Or ensemble\, as well as sonic installations on campus by students from MIT courses 4.373 and 21M.351\n  \nThe MIT Program in Art\, Culture and Technology (ACT) and the MIT Center for Art\, Science & Technology (CAST) present Resonating MIT\, the culmination of a semester-long interdisciplinary collaboration that deploys sonic interventions to amplify unexplored spatial atmospheres on MIT’s historic campus. A series of performances\, installations\, and a mobile-ready website provide gateways to critical spatial inquiries using sound from the past\, present\, and the speculative future of the Institute. Engaging artistic\, architectural\, sonic engineering\, and research practices\, Resonating MIT proposes that listening and resonating are unique methods for understanding space and place\, using art as a catalyzer to amplify transdisciplinary exchange. This week of extra-ocular\, sensorial exploration will feature new works produced by MIT students from the Spring 2014 class 4.373 Sound Installations and Sonic Interventions and the works of CAST visiting artists Stephen Vitiello and Robin Rimbaud\, aka Scanner\, as well as compositions by students from the class 21M.351 Music Composition performed by the avant-garde visiting artist ensemble Either/Or. \nJoin our amplification interventions through the Resonating MIT website\, which grafts a sonic landscape onto MIT’s Cambridge campus and enables the public to participate by sharing their own sound atmospheres. \n\nFeatured Events\n\n4.373 Sound Installations and Sonic Interventions\n Student Installations Live Performance\nTuesday\, May 13 | 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm\nLocation: Map and schedule available at Resonating MIT\nFeaturing live performances and presentations of student projects in MIT’s Lobby 7\, on the Green Building roof\, at the MIT Media Lab\, Walker Memorial Gym\, and Stata Center. \nStudent Installations Final Review\nThursday\, May 15 | 9:30 am – 12:30 pm\nLocation: Map and schedule available at Resonating MIT \nThe class 4.373 Sound Installations and Sonic Interventions is being taught by Professor Gediminas Urbonas and Teaching Assistant Ann Lui with Media Associate Madeleine Gallagher and Fabrication Associate Seth Avecilla in collaboration with Prof. Keeril Makan and Prof. Neil Leonard. \n  \nSonic Bodies\nFriday\, May 16 | Doors open at 7:00 pm\nLocation: ACT Cube\, Bldg. The project is a collaboration with Prof. Keeril Makan at Music and Theater Arts at MIT and ACT Research Affiliate and Berklee professor Neil Leonard. Spring 2014 class 4.373 was also supported by SMArchS HTC candidate Ann Lui. \n
