lift, truss, and cube grid policies

This document lays out the ACT policies for student requests for use of the lift, truss and Cube lighting grid:

lift

Only ACT staff are authorized to use the lifts. No student or faculty may use the lifts without prior approval under any circumstance. The lift is available in E14 ACT spaces. Other areas in E14 may require authorization from persons outside ACT. Students may request a block of time to use the lift under the following conditions:

  • The use of the lift is approved by Seth Avecilla or Madeleine Gallagher
  • Requests must be submitted to Seth Avecilla or Madeleine Gallagher at least 2 business days in advance.  Requests must include a project description and location specifics.
  • Time blocks are 1 hour min and 3 hours maximum
  • The blocks begin no earlier than 10 AM and end no later than 6PM Monday to Friday (or availability of staff)
  • Students may not share blocks of time
  • Use of the lift does not include access to teh E14 lobby truss

The staff member will send a written confirmation (or denial) of request 24 hours before the time requested. Students who fail to show up during the allotted time may be denied future use of the lift.

Lift specifications:

  • Maximum height is 36 feet
  • Lift is for lifting people not large loads or projects
  • Maximum item weight is 40 lbs and has to fit in basket
  • Items need to be approved by staff ahead of time

truss

The truss is only available for projects that cannot be installed with the lift. Only staff are authorized to use the truss.

  • A written request along with project description must be submitted to the Administrative Officer at least 4 business days in advance
  • Time blocks are 3 hour min and 5 hours maximum
  • The blocks begin no earlier than 10 AM and end no later than 6PM Monday to Thursday (or availability of staff)
  • Students may not share blocks of time
  • Truss may only be lowered and raised once per project
  • The use of the lift is approved by the ACT Administrative Officer

The Administrative Officer will send a written confirmation (or denial) of request 24 hours before the time requested. Students who fail to show up during the allotted time may be denied future use of the truss.

Truss specifications:

  • Only static loads – no swinging or moving parts
  • Load weight needs to be approved in advance
  • Power is limited to a single 20 amp service
  • Data is available but student is responsible for configuration

cube lighting grid

Only Madeleine Gallagher is authorized to access the lighting grid. No students or faculty are allowed on the grid without prior approval. Students may request a block of time for work on the lighting grid under the following conditions:

  • A written request along with project description must be submitted to Madeleine Gallagher at least 2 business days in advance
  • Time blocks are 1 hour min and 3 hours maximum
  • The blocks begin no earlier than 10 AM and end no later than 6PM Monday to Friday (or availability of staff)
  • Students may not share blocks of time
  • The use of the grid is approved by Madeleine

Madeleine will send a written confirmation (or denial) of request 24 hours before the time requested. Students who fail to show up during the allotted time may be denied future access to the lighting grid.

Grid specifications:

  • 48 Dimmers
  • Fixtures include Par64, Fesnel and Source 4 ellipsoidal
  • The grid is designed for hanging lights not objects
  • Maximum item weight is 10 lbs
  • Items need to be approved by staff ahead of time
  • Wall boxes are programmed by Madeleine only
