ACT @ 32nd Bienal de São Paulo

The preliminary list of artists for the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo Incerteza viva [Live Uncertainty], has been announced!

Congratulations to the faculty, alumni, and affiliates of ACT who will be included in the second (after Venice) most prestigious and old “worldly” biennale.

The 32nd Bienal de São Paulo will feature the research practice of Nomeda & Gediminas Urbonas. Gediminas Urbonas is the director of ACT and an associate professor in the department of Architecture at MIT, and  Nomeda Urbonas is a research affiliate at MIT and doctoral student at NTNU Norway.

ACT alumni, Alia Farid ’08 (Kuwait) and Pia Lindman ’99 (Finland) will also be featured in the exhibition, along with Rikke Luther (Denmark), participant in ACT’s spring 2015 lecture series.

The 32^nd Bienal de São Paulo means to reflect on the current conditions of life and the strategies offered by contemporary art to harbor or inhabit uncertainty. Incerteza viva [Live Uncertainty] intends to explore ways of living with the unknown through such varied topics as ecology, the cosmologies of beginnings and ends, extinction, collective knowledge, evolutionary myths and living practices. Rather than being divided into sections, the exhibition will weave these themes together into a cohesive set. A work of art, more than an object or manifestation in time and space, represents a vision of the world which can offer everyone new tools and alternative strategies for a life of uncertainty.

The exhibition will be held from September 10 to December 11, 2016 at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion, featuring approximately 90 artists and collectives.
