Amber Frid-Jimenez is an artist whose work uses current media technologies to develop critical artistic installations and networked sites that confront issue ranging from politics and surveillance to representations of women in media. Her recent work includes video installations, performance-based participation from online audiences, and large-scale digital prints. Frid-Jimenez is a 2010 Research Fellow at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Holland, 2008 Rockefeller Foundation New Media Fellow Nominee, and the 2006–7 Steven R. Holtzman Fellow for Digital Expression at the MIT Media Lab.

She has presented her work internationally at institutions including Maison Européenne de la Photographie (Paris, France), A Foundation (Liverpool, UK), Banff New Media Institute (Alberta, Canada), Cornell University, Harvard University, Smithsonian Institution, Time Warner, Toshiba Research & Development Lab (Tokyo, Japan), American Institute of Graphic Arts, and at independent venues such as Art Interactive (Cambridge, MA), Upgrade! International (online), and DFN Gallery (New York).

Frid-Jimenez has recently been appointed an Associate Professor at the National Academy of Arts in Bergen, Norway, beginning Fall 2010. Previously she has taught studio courses on participatory art practice and networked cultures, as a Visiting Lecturer in the MIT Program for Art, Culture and Technology (MIT ACT), Rhode Island School of Design, and Brown University. In 2009-2010, she co-directed a cross-disciplinary lecture series with Ute Meta Bauer, internationally acclaimed curator and Director of MIT ACT. Frid-Jimenez is the Principal Investigator of G-Speak@RISD, a research initiative focused on embodied computation. Frid-Jimenez is a graduate of the MIT Media Laboratory where she studied media design with John Maeda in the Physical Language Workshop. Prior to beginning her degree, she researched and designed interactive software to search through and visualize large bodies of text in the Cognitive Machines Group at MIT. Frid-Jimenez has a background in traditional artistic production, graphic design, and painting.
