Reina Mun (SMACT ’23) has been selected as one of four inaugural Serpentine FAE R&D Fellows from a pool of around 1,000 applicants worldwide. The cohort was chosen by a jury comprising Google DeepMind COO Lila Ibrahim, Refik Anadol, Holly Herndon, Cao Fei, and Snap CEO Evan Spiegel.

Over the next six months, Reina will undertake research exploring how advances in AI are reshaping the relationship between computational models and the physical and social world. The fellowship theme serves as both a prompt and a provocation, responding to a moment in which AI systems can pursue goals, model environments, and act in the world, and inviting the fellows to examine what these developments mean for cultural production, institutions, and public life.
