DESCRIPTION:Historical Resonances\, Archives of the Present\, Genealogies of the Future\nCorinne Diserens\nDirector of ERG in Brussels; and curator of the 10th Taipei Biennial \nCorinne Diserens is currently director of the art academy erg (l’ecole de recherche graphique\, Brussels) and curator of the 2016 Taipei Biennial; she was jury chairwoman of Akademie Schloss Solitude from 2011 to 2015 (Stuttgart). Diserens studied art history at Université Panthéon Sorbonne (Paris 1)\, and was Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art\, Independent Study Program (New York). From 1989 to 1993\, she was curator at IVAM (Instituto Valenciano de Arte Moderno\, Valencia)\, and between 1996 and 2008 she directed Les Musées de Marseille\, Musée des Beaux-arts de Nantes\, Museion Bolzano\, and organized international co-productions for MACBA (Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona). She has curated major artists retrospectives\, biennales\, and thematic exhibitions\, as well as published monographs and catalogues. \nDiserens’s presentation addresses the notion of exhibition as medium. She will begin by examining exhibitions and artist retrospectives that she organized\, such as Dieter Roth\, Lygia Clark\, Marcel Broodthaers\, and the inherent resistance embodied in their oeuvres. She will also discuss issues surrounding translation\, transmission\, and reception in the frame of exhibition and publication as well as the Hamilton/Duchamp relationship. She will also reflect on the medium of exhibition in relation to the 2016 Taipei Biennial. \nThis lecture will be moderated by: Sarah Rifky\, a PhD Candidate in the History\, Theory and Criticism Program and the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at MIT (2021). \nACT’s Monday night lecture series is conceived by Gediminas Urbonas\, ACT director\, and coordinated by Elan Rochbert\, ACT Communications & Public Programs Coordinator and Lucas Freeman\, ACT Writer in Residence\, in conversation with ACT graduate students.\n< \nFunded in part by the Council for the Arts at MIT
