DESCRIPTION:Who:                   Dora García\nWhat:                  Artist talk and discussion.\nWhen:                 Monday\, 02/10 @ 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM\nWhere:                E15-001 \n\nDora García\, an internationally renowned Spanish artist\, will be discussing her artwork that inquires the legacy of Marxist feminisms and their vision of the future and influences on a present-day feminism\, including questions pertinent to form-of-life inquiry and commoning. \nDora Garcia’s talk is organized in relation to the US premier of the “Love with Obstacles” exhibition opening slated on February 13 at the Rose Art Museum\, Brandeis University. Her film “Love with Obstacles” that is part of the exhibition focuses on the legacy of the extraordinary author\, feminist\, October revolutionary\, political exile\, and diplomat Alexandra Kollontai (St. Petersburg\,1872– Moscow\, 1952) who advocated for the sexual emancipation of women and radical equality. \nDora García’s internationally recognized practice draws on interactivity and performance in artistic research and use of exhibition space as a platform to investigate the relationship between artwork\, audience\, and place. García transforms spaces into a sensory experiences by altering perception and creating situations of interaction and often uses intermediaries —professional actors\, amateurs\, or people she meets by chance—to enhance critical thinking. \nThis talk is part of 4.369/8 | Studio Seminar in Art & the Public Sphere taught by Professor Gediminas Urbonas and TA Nathaniel Elberfeld\, SMArchS’20 with support from CAMIT.
