Edward Levine was the Director of the Visual Arts Program from 1996 until 2001. His site-specific sculptures have been included in exhibitions throughout the country and have been supported by fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, Bush Foundation, and the North Carolina Arts Council. Before coming to MIT in 1989, Levine was dean of the School of Art at East Carolina University. From 1978 to 1981 he was dean of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He is the author of several articles on art criticism and theory, published in such journals as Artforum and Art Journal. He has served as a consultant for public art projects and as chairman of the Visual Arts Policy Panel for the National Endowment for the Arts.
