Field of Hot Air Sculptures Over Fire in Snow

Sky art sculpture, Briggs Athletic Field, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, sponsored by the Center for Advanced Visual Studies and German Center, Boston; January 23, 1969. Thirty differently-shaped transparent polyethylene balloons, between three and 30 feet in diameter and 10 and 100 feet long, controlled by strings and raised repeatedly with heated air emitting from nozzles over 10 propane gas tanks spaced around field. Personnel: rehearsed crew of 20; about 70 adults and children volunteers from audience; operators of two 20 KW arc lights.
