This presentation will focus on the diagram as an element of artistic practice. The exposed, enacted diagram is discussed as a trace of our collective efforts to articulate and negotiate that almost impossible circumstance: reality itself.
Matthew Ritchie’s installations integrate painting, wall drawings, light boxes, performance, sculpture, interactivity, music and moving images to explore the possibility and limits of shared systems, narratives and aggregations in cross-disciplinary collaborations as diverse as opera, contemporary music, gaming, architecture, horticulture, urban design, theology, and science. His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions worldwide, including biennials in Sydney, Sao Paulo, Seville, and Havana, and is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and other institutions worldwide.
