Since studying at Tokyo University of the Arts, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Toshihiro Komatsu has shown extensively both internationally and nationally. He has had exhibitions and projects in a range of public and private exhibitions and project spaces, for example: P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York (1999); SculptureCenter, New York (2000); Toride Art Project 2000, Toride, Japan (2000); Queens Museum of Art, New York (2000-2001); Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography (2003); the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, Taiwan (2005); Youkobo Art Space, Tokyo, (2006); TEAF 2007, Ulsan, the Republic of Korea (2007); the gallery at Wimbledon College of Art, London (2009); and the 2009 Shenzhen Hong Kong Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism/Architecture: City Mobilization, China (2009-2010). He is a recipient of the several awards including the VSB Foundation Grant, the Netherlands (1995); Union Foundation for Ergodesign Culture Grant, Japan (1996, 1997); American Photography Institute Grant (1998); Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2000); the Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Grant, UK (2009); the Nomura Cultural Foundation Grant, Japan (2009); and the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation Grant, Japan (2009). He is currently Associate Professor, Department of Fine Arts, Faculty of Art, Kyoto Seika University, Kyoto, Japan.
