Aarti Sunder is interested in ideas that create the subject: technology, economy, and experience; how we relate to these ideas and how they make us. She is also interested in their infrastructure – how these words operate within the larger art-field, informally and institutionally. How would we distance ourselves from the downward spiraling vortex of obsessively subjective claims?
Aarti shared her ideas around artist congregation and the need for renewed solidarities at the Bangkok Biennale this year and at Tate’s Imagined Biennales conference. Aarti was a fellow at Ashkal Alwan’s Home Workspace Programme in 2016-17 and at Art Dubai in 2017-2018. Her work and writing have appeared in Blaft Publications’ Obliterary Journal I and II, Open! and in Makhzin. She is the recipient of several fellowships including SARAI City as Studio fellowship for Contemporary Art, Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation-ISCP Residency Scholarship and the Dutch ArtEZ two-year education scholarship.
She uses drawing, video, performance and writing. Aarti will be a resident artist at Alserkal in 2019. She will also be a part of the Sommerakademie Paul Klee for 2019-2020.
