On Saturday, March 28th 2015, ACT Lecturer, Jesal Kapadia will participate in an academic seminar at the Mumbai City Museum “View From The Boat,” inspired by the Mumbai-based artist group CAMP’s extensive maritime-world exhibition, entitled “As If III – Country of the Sea.”

Kapadia will respond to the work of CAMP as well as discuss artistic research in the context of non-capitalist image flows.

CAMP’s six-year project on the Western Indian Ocean and around the Arabian/Persian Gulf includes the national premiere of their much-traveled film, From Gulf to Gulf to Gulf, in which Kutchi sailors and others take us from Kutch in western India to ports of the Gulf and on to parts of Somalia and the Gulf of Aden, in a series of journeys at sea. The show suggests a range of counterpoints to the colonial “view from the boat” and also to the contemporary metaphors of “liquidity” and “flow” of smooth oceanic capital.

Date: Saturday, March 28th, 2015
Time: 10:30 am to 5 pm
